Rainwater Collection and Utilization

Class Code 3302 - 8 hours

This introductory course will present students with the methods of collection, storage, and utilization of rainwater for a landscape irrigation system.  This course will cover the collection and storage of harvested water for a residential or light commercial irrigation system.  Students will learn how to determine how much water can be collected from a surface and how much stored water will be necessary for an irrigated area.  Before attending this course, students should have a basic understanding of irrigation system components and installation.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify the components of a rainwater harvesting system
  2. Calculate the amount of potential water collection from a surface
  3. Calculate the amount of water needed to supply a landscape irrigation system
  4. Assemble and install a rainwater collection system
  5. Connect to a landscape irrigation system and utilize rainwater as the water supply
