TUCSON, Ariz. (September 6, 2011) — In these challenging economic times, landscape contractors are exploring new ways to increase their revenue-generating potential. Now, Rain Bird Services Corporation is making it possible for contractors to begin offering irrigation services in less than a week after attending Rain Bird Academy’s four-day Boot Camps.
Rain Bird Academy’s Boot Camps feature expert instruction on the newest irrigation design, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting methods. Full-time, professional irrigation instructors incorporate products from a variety of manufacturers into the training classes, ensuring that students can handle most residential irrigation situations. According to Jeremy Mansell, senior technical trainer for Rain Bird Services Corporation, these Boot Camps are ideal for beginners.
“The Boot Camp’s courses build upon each other so that contractors will have a good basic knowledge of irrigation in just a few days,” Mansell said. “We start out with an introduction to irrigation and then our instructors walk attendees through installation basics. After that, we spend two full days on maintenance and troubleshooting. The camps conclude with a full day of irrigation design for residential and light commercial properties.”
By adding irrigation installation to their list of services, contractors can not only expand their field of prospective customers, but they can also build upon their current customer relationships. Offering this additional service creates opportunities for contractors to cross-sell existing customers on other services like lawn care, landscaping and snow removal.
Robert Pfeil, manager of training services for Rain Bird Services Corporation, says that contractors who attempt to start offering irrigation services without proper training often find that the learning curve can lead to costly mistakes in the field and call-backs that eat away at profits.
“We realize that there are many contractors out there who haven’t received any formal training for one reason or another,” Pfeil said. “That’s why we’ve made our Boot Camps both easy and affordable for contractors to attend. We believe that being an irrigation contractor is not just a job—it’s a profession on the same level as electricians and plumbers. By raising the level of irrigation services being provided in the field, we can also raise the level of professionalism in the industry.”
